How to repair a non-separable pocket zipper? [VIDEO TUTORIAL]
Do you have a non-separating zipper that won't close anymore?
You know the kind—the sort found on pockets for coats, bags, or jackets.
Don't panic: with our Clip&Zip sliders, you can easily repair it yourself—no sewing required.
We’ll show you step-by-step in this video how to fix the zipper on a pocket (or other accessory).
But first, what exactly is a "non-separating" zipper?
It’s a zipper that remains attached at the bottom, even when fully open. You typically find them on pockets for jackets, backpacks, covers, and so on.
When this type of zipper jams or the teeth stop closing properly, the slider is often the culprit.
Why choose a Clip&Zip slider?
Our Clip&Zip sliders are easy to install and simply snap into place. This saves you from having to replace the entire zipper or needing sewing skills.
It opens from the side, allowing you to attach it directly to the zipper without having to take anything apart.
What you need to complete this tutorial:
-
A Clip&Zip slider suited to the type and size of your zipper (nylon, metal, or plastic). To find the right one, please refer to our "Find my slider" page.
-
Flat-nose pliers or a small screwdriver, if needed.
Let's get down to business...
How to repair a non-separable zipper step by step?
1. Cut off the old, damaged slider using pliers.
2. Open the new Clip&Zip slider.
Using your fingers or a thin tool, gently pry the slider apart into two halves.
3. Position the slider on the track.
Position it over the two rows of zipper teeth, starting where the teeth are properly aligned. The slider should be perfectly centered.
4. Snap the slider into place.
Press firmly until you hear it click shut. You can use flat-nose pliers to fully engage the mechanism if necessary.
5. Test the zipper and zip it up!
Slide the slider up and down to ensure the teeth mesh correctly. And there you go—your pocket is functional again!
Additional tips:
-
Clean the teeth with a soft brush if the closure is old.
-
Use gentle movements when zipping up your zipper.
Repairing a non-separable zipper is easy for everyone thanks to Clip&Zip sliders.
This simple step saves you from having to throw things away or buy replacements, while extending the lifespan of your favorite clothes and accessories.
